Kids' Cafe History
Kids'Cafe is operated by a
dedicated group of parents who work in partnership with the school and its
community to encourage students to make healthy choices.
A school canteen was previously operated by a private company that supplied food
high in fat and sugar. Due to a lack of profits the private company pulled out
at the end of 2003.
This gave the opportunity for a group of enthusiastic parents and teachers,
concerned about students' eating habits, to embark on establishing a new healthy
canteen called the Kids'Cafe.
Before the new facility was
opened parents and students were involved in a education program that involved
learning the difference between processed and healthy natural food.
Jacqi Deighan, a children's food educator presented a program to parents and
students called the 'Healthy Lunch Box' which highlighted the importance of
making healthy choices.
Parents and students were also treated to taste testings of the food that would
be available at the Kids' Cafe.
The Kids' Cafe began operating in November 2004 and is continuing to grow in popularity providing a fabulous healthy menu that students can enjoy each Friday.
Parent Helpers
The Kids' Cafe relies upon
parent helpers to be successful. It is intended that it will make a small
profit, that in turn, will go back into the Kids' Cafe and benefit the students
further.
Parent helpers perform a vital role in ensuring that the Kids' Cafe remains
viable and Donna Rodwell (the Manager) would be keen to her from any parent who
can spare any amount of time to assist.
Although it is a busy day the parents have a great time and the students are
very appreciative of their efforts. Any amount of assistance at the Kids' Cafe
entitles you to enter the monthly draw for a great prize.
Please enter your name into the book at the office for any times and dates you
are available or see Donna Rodwell or Sue Barron. They would love to hear from
you.
