
Kids' Cafe Policy
Purpose:
1.1
To offer a range of food and refreshments to support the nutritional
needs of the school community.
1.2
To provide nutritional food and refreshments at a reasonable cost.
1.3
To model and promote healthy eating habits.
1.4
To run the ‘Kids’ Café’ at a profit.
Broad
Guidelines:
2.1
Nutrition and Health
·
To
encourage good eating habits and promote the long-term health of the students.
·
To
reinforce and supplement the classroom programs relating to nutrition and
health.
·
To
provide guidance in food selection and encouragement for students in the choice
of nutritious meals and snacks.
·
To
provide nutritional food in accordance with the recommendations of the Australian
Guide to Healthy Eating and the
Dietary Guidelines for Children and Adolescents
(refer Internet references)
2.2
Management
·
School
Council will employ a manger to operate the canteen as recommended by the
canteen committee
·
The
Manager will be responsible for;

The
coordination of voluntary parents
and friends.

The
promotion of the canteen.
-
The menu
ensuring that it meets the guidelines in section 2.1.
-
Special
promotions and activities.
-
Ensuring
Health and Safety regulations are observed.

A canteen
committee will be formed comprising of;

Manager

Assistant
Principal
-
School
Council Representative
-
Voluntary
parent
-
Teacher
-
Parent
Club Representative
-
Student
representative from the Junior Representative Council
2.3
Operation
·
The
Manager will hold a current supervisors’ certificate in accordance with the
Victorian Food Act 1984 (amended in
1997).
·
The
Manager will operate the canteen in accordance with the Victorian Government Schools Reference Guide. Section 7.17 ( refer internet reference)
·
The
Canteen Committee, in conjunction with School Council will determine the days
the canteen will operate.
Implementation:
3.1
A roster
of parents and friends of the school will be organised to provide assistance in
the canteen’s day-to-day operation.
3.2
A lunch
order system will operate allowing for the collection of lunch orders and supply
of food to classrooms, along with counter sales at recess and lunchtimes.
3.3
The menu will be regularly advertised highlighting specials and
promotions.
3.4
An incentives program will operate to encourage regular use of the
canteen.
Evaluation
4.1
Feedback from the school community will be obtained through surveys and
communications with students, parents and teachers.
4.2
Monitoring the school community’s use of the canteen through frequency
of purchases.
